What Is the Plot and Story Background of Blade & Bastard?
Deeply rooted in the grimdark traditions of the legendary Wizardry role-playing video game franchise, Blade & Bastard unfolds in the unexplored, monster-infested depths of a subterranean labyrinth. The story begins when a mysterious corpse is recovered from a sector where no human should exist. Upon being brought back to life at a local temple, the resurrected warrior, named Iarumas, discovers that all memories of his previous life have been completely erased.
To pay off his resurrection debts and search for fragments of his identity, Iarumas commits to a macabre profession. He becomes a utilitarian dungeon scavenger, diving into the abyss solely to retrieve the bodies of fallen adventurers so they can either be revived or reduced to ash on the divine altar. Viewed with deep suspicion by the living due to his cold, detached attitude, Iarumas walks his path in near-isolation, consorting almost exclusively with the dead.
His routine changes forever when he rescues Garbage, a feral young swordswoman who is the lone survivor of a brutally massacred exploration party. Together, this mismatched duo ventures into the lower floors of the maze, braving lethal traps, ferocious beasts, and the looming threat of a permanent, final death.
