What is the New Mob Psycho 100 Short Film About?
The newly animated special made its grand debut during the Mob Psycho 100 Anime 10th Anniversary Event: Reunion. The physical celebration took place at the Fukagawa Mirai Hall in Kawaguchi City, Saitama Prefecture, serving as the perfect backdrop for this surprise screening.
For fans who could not attend the Japanese venue in person, the production committee launched the short online with English subtitles via the official Warner Bros. Japan Anime YouTube channel.
The narrative of the short film transports viewers back to the familiar, chaotic living room of the Spirits and Such Consultation Office. The story reunites fan-favorite characters Arataka Reigen, Shigeo “Mob” Kageyama, the cheeky spirit Dimple, and Kurata Tome. What starts as an ordinary day of taking advantage of Mob’s psychic abilities quickly goes off the rails when a sudden supernatural incident leaves Reigen in deep, hilarious trouble.
Which Original Staff Members Returned for the Special?
A project of this scale required the return of the visual architects who made the anime a global phenomenon. Yuzuru Tachikawa, the visionary director who spearheaded the first two seasons and served as chief director for the third season, returned to write, storyboard, unit direct, and direct the entire short.
Joining him was acclaimed character designer Yoshimichi Kameda, who took the helm as the animation director and drew a gorgeous, commemorative illustration of Mob and Reigen to mark the decade milestone. The legendary voice actors also reprised their signature roles, including Setsuo Ito as Mob and Takahiro Sakurai as the lovable con artist Reigen.
Following the release, Kameda expressed his immense gratitude to the fanbase:
“Congratulations on the 10th anniversary! Mob Psycho is a special work that showed me many different perspectives. It is truly incredible that it continues to be so loved even after the broadcast has ended. Did you enjoy the 10th anniversary commemorative video? It was possible to reunite almost all the original members to complete it!”
Kameda also reflected on the unique, hand-drawn identity of the franchise. He noted that rewatching the very first episode from 2016 reminded him of how distinct and expressive the series’ animation has always been, showcasing that even seemingly simple character designs can yield industry-defining kinetic action.

Crunchyroll Anime Nights is bringing the franchise to the big screen on July 20, 2026, for a one-night-only theatrical event in the United States and Canada.
