What is OBAKEIDORO 2: Chase & Seek?
OBAKEIDORO 2: Chase & Seek is an asymmetrical multiplayer action game inspired by traditional Japanese folklore and the classic schoolyard game of Cops and Robbers, known locally as Keidoro. Set in an eerie yet charming old-Japan world, the game divides players into two opposing teams, Humans and Monsters, for intense three-minute rounds of cat-and-mouse tag.
The game combines family-friendly horror elements with an accessible, “scary-cute” visual aesthetic. This design choice ensures that players of all ages and horror tolerance levels can enjoy the pulse-pounding tension of survival gameplay without any of the blood or gore typical of the asymmetrical horror genre.
How Does the Asymmetrical Gameplay Work?
The core gameplay loop centers on a fast-paced, high-stakes countdown where teamwork dictates who survives. Matches scale up to eight players online or locally, sorting participants into distinct tactical roles:
- The Human Team: Composed of three to six players. Humans must stick together, use environmental traps, and navigate platforms to evade capture. Their ultimate defensive tool is the Lantern, which can be flashed to temporarily stun oncoming monsters. Captured Humans are sent to a central jail, but active teammates can launch rescue missions to break them out.
- The Monster Team: Composed of one or two players. Monsters win by capturing every single Human before the three-minute clock expires. To counteract the Humans’ numbers, Monsters are equipped with supernatural abilities like phase-shifting through solid walls, tracking footprints, and unleashing a massive Super Catch radius attack.
If even one Human remains free when the time limit expires, the Human team secures the victory. If the Monsters lock everyone in jail, the supernatural forces win.
What Gameplay Modes are Available at Launch?
FREE STYLE, Inc. has built the sequel to accommodate a wide variety of social playstyles, packing six distinct game modes into the final package:
- Quick Match: Global online matchmaking where maps rotate every single hour to keep strategies fresh. Special eight-player sessions trigger at designated times throughout the day.
- Room Match: A private online suite allowing users to host secure lobbies via custom Room IDs and password protection.
- Join Friends: A streamlined quality-of-life feature that lets you instantly drop into an active friend’s live session.
- Single Player Chase and Seek: A dedicated offline solo environment populated by CPU players. This mode acts as the primary pipeline for earning in-game Coins, which players use to unlock brand-new character skins, distinct monsters, and upgradeable lanterns.
- Local Party Chase and Seek: Local wireless multiplayer supporting up to eight participants across multiple connected systems.
- Splitscreen Chase and Seek: Classic four-player couch co-op on a single console, allowing families to share a single screen in the same room.
Does OBAKEIDORO 2 Support Nintendo Switch 2 Game Share?
The title fully leverages the hardware capabilities of the next-generation platform by introducing comprehensive Game Share integration for the Nintendo Switch 2. This means that up to four friends can gather locally or connect over the internet to play together even if only one person owns a retail copy of the software. This feature significantly lowers the barrier to entry, transforming the game into an incredibly frictionless addition to any casual party rotation or family game night.
