What Is the Plot of Patlabor EZY?
Set in 2030s Japan, the narrative takes place in an era where severe workforce shortages and rapid advancements in artificial intelligence have transformed industrial technology. Labors, the human-piloted giant mechas that once dominated heavy construction, are now being phased out in favor of fully autonomous AI robots.
Despite these technological changes, Special Vehicle Section 2 (SV-2) remains active to handle specialized crimes involving legacy and modern Labor tech. To meet these new challenges, the squad deploys the AV-98Plus Ingram, an upgraded model featuring enhanced chassis durability, improved software, and an augmented reality flight helmet for its pilots.
In File 3, the squad confronts a massive crisis brewing beneath Tokyo during the Araragi Project, an ambitious underground infrastructure renovation endeavor that puts the new SV-2 pilots to the ultimate test.

How Does Patlabor EZY Fit Into Franchise History?
Created by the celebrated artist collective HEADGEAR, which included director Mamoru Oshii, screenwriter Kazunori Itō, mecha designer Yutaka Izubuchi, character designer Akemi Takada, and manga artist Masami Yuuki, Mobile Police Patlabor debuted in 1988. The franchise revolutionized mecha anime by treating giant robots as practical everyday utility tools rather than military weapons.
Following 2002’s Patlabor WXIII, the franchise remained quiet in animation for two decades. Patlabor EZY was first conceptualized by producer Tarō Maki of GENCO in 2017 before unveiling an official pilot film in 2022.
