What Is the Legacy Patch in Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter Update 1.07?
The core focus of Update 1.07 is franchise continuity. Developed in direct collaboration with Nihon Falcom, the Legacy Patch overhauls English voice acting, in-game menus, system text, and localized dialogue so that terms seamlessly match subsequent entries in the Trails series.
While foundational character names unique to the initial adventure remain untouched to preserve nostalgic immersion, key story locations, items, and combat mechanics have been revised.
Major Location and Terminology Name Changes
- Tetracyclic Towers: Jade Tower is now Esmelas Tower, Amber Tower becomes Amberl Tower, Crimson Tower updates to Carnelia Tower, and Azure Tower shifts to Sapphire Tower.
- Quartz Mechanics: Arts Defense is renamed Shield, Sweet Aroma becomes Scent, Heat Haze changes to Haze, Hidden Leaf becomes Cloak, and Heavenly Insight updates to Revelation.
- Combat Alignment: Quartz Blade-Types now use the names of the specific status ailments they inflict. Quartz Shield-Types are renamed to Guard-Type to avoid confusion with the Shield Quartz.
- Lore and Monsters: Orbal golem is updated to Archaism, Bitter Tomato becomes Acerbic Tomato, Exposure quartz becomes Photo-quartz, Lord of the lake is now Guardian of the lake, and the Hundred Day War changes to Hundred Days War. Grand Charine is also updated to Grand Chardonnay.
- Fishing Updates: Orosho becomes Tiger Rockfish, Rainbow becomes Rainbow Trout, Samona changes to Salmon, and Silver Smelt changes to Kasagin.
What Voice and Pronunciation Changes Were Added in Update 1.07?
To establish audio consistency across future remakes and sequels, Nihon Falcom and GungHo re-recorded select English voice lines and refined localized pronunciations. Key English pronunciations adjusted in Update 1.07 include:
- Liberl
- Calvard
- Zin
- Loewe
- Hamel
- Auslese
- Zemuria
These updated pronunciations and terms carry directly over into Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter. While the vast majority of affected spoken lines were updated, a small handful remain unchanged due to production constraints.
How Does Update 1.07 Improve French, German, and System Stability?
Beyond English lore adjustments, Update 1.07 tackles multi-language accuracy and technical stability across all platforms.
- French Localizations: Minor grammar tweaks increase overall consistency, updating “golem orbal” to archétype and “la grand-route d’Elise” to la grand-route d’Elize.
- German Localizations: System text updates ensure term parity, changing “Elise-Hauptstraße” to Elize-Hauptstraße.
- Performance and Bug Fixes: Resolves an issue where low memory states caused random desktop or console crashes, along with fixes for minor UI script glitches and lingering typos.
How Can Steam Players Revert to Version 1.06.3?
For purists on PC who prefer the original launching localization without the new terminology rules, GungHo has provided an optional rollback branch on Steam.
PC players can select Version 1.06.3 via the Steam game properties menu to continue playing with the launch localization. This rollback feature is exclusive to PC platforms, while console versions will automatically run on the updated 1.07 format.
