Indie developer BULKHEAD and publisher Team17 have taken the PC gaming world by storm with their new large-scale tactical shooter, WARDOGS. Released into Steam Early Access on September 10, 2026, the all-out warfare FPS sold over 1.25 million units in its first 24 hours and surpassed two million copies sold within five days. Reaching a staggering peak of over 428,000 concurrent players, the title has established itself as one of the biggest PC multiplayer launches of the year.

How Many Copies Has WARDOGS Sold on Steam?
The community interest surrounding WARDOGS built steadily ahead of launch. The title accumulated 100,000 wishlist additions on Steam within three days of its initial reveal, crossed 500,000 in May, and reached over one million wishlists shortly before release.
This massive excitement translated directly into sales revenue. In addition to selling two million copies in less than a week, data from SteamDB reveals that the game surged to fourth place on Valve’s list of most-played games, trailing only free-to-play powerhouses like Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2.
Reacting to the launch milestone, BULKHEAD CEO Joe Brammer shared:
“Surpassing one million copies sold right at launch in early access is insane. We’ve spent the last few months showing people exactly what WARDOGS is, what it isn’t, and at one point we literally gave ten reasons not to buy it.”
What Is WARDOGS Gameplay and How Does It Work?
Inspired by the classic “King of the Hill” custom mods, WARDOGS delivers intense, large-scale modern warfare. Up to 100 players are divided into three competing mercenary factions across a massive open battlefield.
- Control Zones: Matches pit three teams of 33 players against each other inside randomized two-by-two kilometer Control Zones.
- In-Game Economy: Players start every life with $10,000 to purchase customized weapons and tactical military gear. Cash is earned dynamically by capturing objectives, reviving teammates, or providing squad transport.
- Destruction and Building: Powered by Unreal Engine 5, players can demolish entire structures with rockets and heavy vehicles or build fortified defensive barriers on the fly.
When Is WARDOGS Coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S?
While PC players can join the action today via Steam, console users will need to wait a bit longer. BULKHEAD and Team17 have confirmed that WARDOGS is scheduled to release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2028, following an estimated 12 to 24-month Early Access refinement window on PC.
