What Is the WIT Studio “Special Dinner” Teaser?
The newly released visual brings together the legendary core cast from WIT Studio’s era of the anime. Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Levi, Erwin, and Hange are shown enjoying a meal together, an occasion that never occurred during the harrowing events of the main timeline.
The image highlights the date August 20, 2026, accompanied by the intentionally vague caption: “It seems that during ‘that period’ they will be holding a special dinner.”
Industry observers note that the phrasing “that period” or “that phase” deliberately obscures where this gathering fits into the timeline. While some fans suspect a slice-of-life spin-off or exhibition, producer Tetsuya Kinoshita previously hinted at upcoming original content, potential short films, and brand collaborations for the franchise, keeping speculation at an all-time high.
How Does WIT Studio’s Announcement Connect to the Overall Franchise History?
Although Hajime Isayama ended the manga in April 2021 after 34 serialized volumes with Kodansha, Attack on Titan remains an active titan in global pop culture:
- WIT Studio Era (2013-2019): Crafted the ground-breaking first 59 episodes across Seasons 1 to 3, establishing the iconic visual direction and breathtaking 3D Maneuver Gear animation.
- MAPPA Takeover (2020-2023): Studio MAPPA assumed animation duties for Season 4 (The Final Season), concluding the 94-episode TV run with two feature-length television specials.
- Theatrical Success: Compiled into the feature film Attack on Titan: The Last Attack, the cinematic finale grossed over one billion yen in Japan before landing globally on Crunchyroll Attack on Titan Streaming Page.
- 15th Anniversary Activities: MAPPA recently celebrated the franchise’s 15th anniversary with custom artwork and animated cutscenes for the video game Attack on Titan 3.
