What Is the Story and Premise of Destiny Unchain Online?

Originally published as a web novel in May 2020 before being picked up by Kodansha Ranobe Books in 2022 and receiving a popular manga adaptation on Magazine Pocket, Destiny Unchain Online offers a fresh spin on the virtual reality gaming genre.

High school student Kou Mitsuki is an elite pro gamer known throughout the online community as Crim the Headhunter. When his father, a game developer, recruits him to test his latest full-immersion VR device called the Cradle and its flagship title Destiny Unchain Online, a system bug glitches Kou’s account creation.

Instead of his intended build, Kou spawns into the game world as Crim, a delicate girl belonging to the rare Noble Red vampire race. Stranded without the ability to log out, Kou embraces his new identity, teaming up with allies to build the top-tier guild Lua Cheia and rising to fame across the server as the feared Scarlet Demon Lord.
