Indie game publishers room6 and yokaze, alongside solo developer Rias, have officially announced that atmospheric 3D action-adventure title Kitsune: The Journey of Adashino will launch in Spring 2027. The Japanese folklore-inspired title is scheduled to arrive across Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Featuring a distinct aesthetic dominated by glowing neon signage, red torii gates, and festival food stalls, the adventure follows a fox girl named Kitsune and her frog companion as they traverse a mysterious island while fleeing terrifying shadows.

What Is the Story and Setting of Kitsune: The Journey of Adashino?
Set during the legendary night of the Jugoya harvest festival, Kitsune: The Journey of Adashino unfolds on the mysterious Adashino Island.
Kitsune, a fox girl, finds herself stranded on Adashino Island alongside her loyal frog companion. The island is shrouded in darkness save for floating lights, lanterns, and glowing neon street signs that create a surreal, retro-modern Japanese atmosphere. As the pair journey through the settlement, they aim for the distant Tower of Mumyo, a structure that glimmers bewitchingly with stolen lights. Along the way, Kitsune uses light magic to banish darkness, converse with quirky island residents, and uncover secret pathways.
How Do the Exploration and Escape Gameplay Mechanics Work?
The core gameplay loop in Kitsune: The Journey of Adashino alternates between peaceful atmospheric exploration and high-stakes survival sequences.
- Exploration Sequences: Players travel through towns, market stalls, and shrines, talking with local spirits and lighting sacred torches to unlock new areas of the island.
- Stealth Escape Sequences: Shadowy Oni demons lurk in the dark, relentlessly pursuing Kitsune through claustrophobic corridors.
- Resource-Based Defense: Kitsune can emit a flash of light to temporarily blind approaching monsters, buying crucial seconds to escape. However, light uses are strictly limited and must be recharged at shrines scattered across the map.
Indie adventure enthusiasts can add Kitsune: The Journey of Adashino to their Steam Wishlist today or follow room6 on X for additional console pre-order updates ahead of its Spring 2027 debut.
