End of an Era: The Pokémon Company Sets Final Shutdown Date for Pokémon Bank
Pokémon Bank shuts down February 26, 2027! Learn how to transfer your legacy Pokémon to Pokémon HOME before access ends forever.

The Pokémon Company and developer Game Freak have officially announced that Pokémon Bank, the long-running Nintendo 3DS cloud storage application, will permanently shut down on February 26, 2027. Trainers have a final window to move their legacy digital creatures to Pokémon HOME, available on Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. Once the servers go offline, the transfer bridge between the Nintendo 3DS era and modern hardware will vanish permanently, leaving untransferred creatures stranded on legacy devices.

What Is Pokémon Bank and Why Is It Shutting Down?
Launched in late 2013 on the Nintendo 3DS eShop, Pokémon Bank served as the central vault for storing monster collections across Generation 6 and 7 titles, including Pokémon X and Y, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Sun and Moon, and Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Paired with the companion tool Poké Transporter, the service enabled backwards compatibility for mainline Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS titles.
Although the application transitioned into a free-to-use service following the closure of the Nintendo 3DS eShop, maintaining legacy cloud infrastructure requires ongoing server upkeep. The decision to retire Pokémon Bank marks the final sunset for online support on Nintendo 3DS systems.
When Is the Pokémon Bank Transfer Deadline?
The official server termination takes place on February 26, 2027. After this date, the connection between Pokémon Bank and Pokémon HOME will be completely disabled.
Important Transfer Guidelines:
- One-Way Trip: Moving creatures from Pokémon Bank to Pokémon HOME is a permanent, one-way process. Pokémon sent to HOME cannot be returned to Nintendo 3DS cartridges.
- Account Linking: Players must link their Nintendo Network ID (NNID) from the 3DS system to their active Nintendo Account to complete the migration.
- Pre-Downloaded Apps: Because the Nintendo 3DS eShop no longer allows new downloads, only users who already downloaded Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter before the eShop shutdown can execute transfers.
How Will Classic Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Connect to Pokémon HOME?
Alongside the server closure announcement, The Pokémon Company confirmed that Pokémon HOME will expand its capabilities. Starting in October 2026, the service will officially add support for Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version.
This update introduces native connectivity for these iconic titles to the modern cloud ecosystem. Players will be able to preserve their classic Kanto adventures seamlessly on Nintendo Switch hardware and mobile platforms through the App Store and Google Play Store. While older physical Game Boy Advance cartridges previously required a multi-step chain using a Nintendo DS Lite, Poké Transporter, and Pokémon Bank, modern releases on current platforms will integrate directly with Pokémon HOME.
Trainers are strongly encouraged to log into their Nintendo 3DS systems and clear out all stored boxes well ahead of the February 2027 cutoff.
