Classic Dark Fantasy Manga The Record of a Fallen Vampire Gets TV Anime Adaptation in 2027

Over two decades after its original manga debut, Square Enix’s acclaimed dark fantasy romance The Record of a Fallen Vampire (Vampire Jūjikai) is officially being adapted into a television anime series slated to premiere in 2027. Animation studios Zero-G and Liber are co-producing the project under the direction of Mankyū, bringing author Kyo Shirodaira’s epic tale of tragic love and supernatural warfare to screen for the very first time. The announcement debuted alongside an official teaser trailer, visual, and lead cast reveals featuring Yūma Uchida and Aino Shimada.

What Is the Plot of The Record of a Fallen Vampire?

The Record of a Fallen Vampire centers on Akabara “Red Rose” Strauss, the legendary Vampire King who lost both his sovereign kingdom and his beloved queen thousands of years ago. Incapable of killing the immortal queen, human forces sealed her away across the world beneath thousands of decoy seals to ensure the king could never reunite with her.

Despite being relentlessly hunted by dhampir forces, Strauss wanders the Earth in search of his missing queen. However, his quest is perpetually threatened by the Black Swan, a parasitic magical curse that inhabits the body of a young human woman every 50 years, granting her immense power specifically designed to destroy the Vampire King. With each new host, the Black Swan absorbs combat knowledge and grows stronger. As the 49th incarnation of the Black Swan emerges, Strauss faces his ultimate test in his relentless search for the truth.
