Dave Filoni Unveils Ahsoka Season 2 Trailer and Release Window at D23

Almost three years after the acclaimed season one finale, Lucasfilm has finally pulled back the curtain on Ahsoka Season 2. Unveiled live on stage at Disney’s D23 fan event in Anaheim, series creator Dave Filoni was joined by stars Rosario Dawson, Hayden Christensen, and Eman Esfandi to present the first official trailer. During the presentation, Lucasfilm confirmed via the official Star Wars website that Ahsoka Season 2 will premiere globally on Disney+ on January 20, 2027.

What Happens in the First Ahsoka Season 2 Trailer?

The premiere trailer splits its narrative across two distinct sectors of the galaxy. In known space, Grand Admiral Thrawn initiates a full-scale military campaign against the fragile New Republic. This thrusts classic fan-favorite characters back into direct conflict:

• Hera Syndulla taking command of New Republic defense fleets.
• Ezra Bridger fighting alongside fellow allies to stall the Imperial remnant.
• Zeb Orrelios and the loyal astromech Chopper returning to active duty.

Meanwhile, on the distant and mystical planet of Peridea, Ahsoka Tano and her apprentice Sabine Wren fight to survive in unknown territory while seeking a path back to their home galaxy.

Who Is Returning in the Ahsoka Season 2 Cast?

The new footage showcases an expansive cast mixing returning heroes, Imperial strategists, and iconic Jedi. Confirmed cast members for the upcoming season include:

• Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano
• Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren
• Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn
• Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger
• Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker
• Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla

Before the D23 reveal, actor Eman Esfandi teased that creator Dave Filoni went all out for the sophomore installment, promising high-octane action packed with lightsaber duels, massive space battles, and cinematic combat sequences that match the scale of the core saga films.

How Does Ahsoka Season 2 Fit Into Lucasfilm’s Future Slate?

The premiere date announcement comes as Lucasfilm adjusts its live-action television pipeline. After launching multiple streaming series over recent years, Ahsoka Season 2 currently stands as the sole live-action series explicitly dated on Lucasfilm’s upcoming broadcast schedule.

The studio has pivoted its primary focus back toward theatrical releases, led by upcoming feature films including Star Wars: Starfighter directed by Shawn Levy and additional movie projects announced at Star Wars Celebration. Fans can watch the new season unfold when Ahsoka Season 2 hits Disney+ on January 20, 2027.
