Acclaimed Yuri Drama The Moon on a Rainy Night Drops Emotional First Trailer for 2027 Premiere

Global media distributor REMOW and Kodansha have released the debut teaser trailer for the upcoming animated television adaptation of manga artist Kuzushiro’s acclaimed girls’ love drama, The Moon on a Rainy Night (Amayo no Tsuki). Scheduled to premiere in 2027, animation studio CompTown is producing the series under the direction of Tomoe Makino. Featuring powerhouse voice actresses Iori Saeki and Sora Amamiya in the lead roles, the delicate coming-of-age story explores how empathy, music, and shared understanding break down emotional barriers between two high school girls.

What Is the Plot of The Moon on a Rainy Night?

The story begins on a stormy evening when high school student Saki Kindaichi, rushing to her piano practice, collides with a striking girl with long flowing hair. Saki drops her sheet music in the scramble, but the mysterious stranger quietly gathers the papers, hands her a bandage, and vanishes into the rain without uttering a word.

The next morning at her high school entrance ceremony, Saki is stunned to discover the stranger sitting at the desk beside her. She learns her classmate’s name is Kanon Oikawa. Kanon developed sudden hearing loss during fifth grade, forcing her to rely on lip-reading to communicate. Traumatized by past misunderstandings and patronizing treatment, Kanon maintains a cold exterior to push others away. Unwilling to stand by while Kanon isolates herself, Saki reaches out with genuine kindness, initiating a quiet rhythm that slowly transforms both of their lives.
