What Is the Plot of Rebuild World?
Set in a bleak future centuries after the collapse of peak human civilization, Rebuild World takes place in a world littered with ancient technological ruins. Modern society relies on relic hunters to enter these hazardous zones and retrieve hyper-advanced “Old World” artifacts that command vast fortunes on the black market. However, retrieving these relics means braving rogue biological weapons and automated killer drones left behind by ancient security networks.
The story follows Akira, an impoverished street orphan from the slums who becomes a novice hunter to change his fate. Ill-equipped, malnourished, and completely untrained, Akira faces certain death on his first foray into the ruins until he meets Alpha, a mysterious, ethereal woman visible only to him. Alpha offers him an unprecedented deal: she will grant him superhuman tactical assistance and guidance if he agrees to help her conquer a secret, highly dangerous ruin deep inside the wasteland.

What Is the Origin of the Rebuild World Light Novel and Manga?
Rebuild World originally began serialization on the user-generated novel publishing website Shosetsuka ni Naro in 2017. Kadokawa picked up the title for commercial publication under its Dengeki Bunko imprint in 2019, featuring distinct artwork contributions from character illustrator Gin, environmental designer yish, and mechanical artist cell.
The light novel quickly achieved widespread critical success, placing high on Takarajimasha’s annual Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! ranking list in the tankobon category. In July 2019, manga artist Kirihito Ayamura began drawing an ongoing manga adaptation serialized in Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh. Readers can find official English releases of the light novels and manga translated by J-Novel Club.
